1. Dear readers,
2. As we step into this new year, I want to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude to each and every one of you. Your support and enthusiasm have been the backbone of this journey, and I am eternally thankful for the love and patience you've shown.
3. I wish you all a wonderful start to the year 2024, filled with joy, creativity, and countless opportunities.
4. Also, there will be no new episode this week. Instead, I'm excited to bring you a q&a session! I'm looking forward to answering your questions and sharing more about the background of making "Ruthless (Gl)."
Memuatkan…Memuatkan…
1. Where did you get your inspirations from?
2. My inspirations come from a mix of everyday life, personal experiences, and the world around me. I often find ideas in the small moments of daily life or in the stories and experiences shared by friends.
3. In fact the “Rules” thing are inspired by a friend of mine. My friend has her own unique rules, but they aren’t as strict as jimin’s.
4. Were you inspired by someone to create a character?
Memuatkan…Memuatkan…
1. Character?
2. Yes, from the people around me or public figures and characters from anime who have left a good impression on me.
3. For jimin, the hime cut hairstyle and the eyes colour were inspired by yumeko jabami. Sera's appearance is inspired by an influencer.
4. I like to blend these real-world inspirations with my imagination to create characters that are both relatable and intriguing.
1. How do you develop the personalities and backstories of your characters?
2. For developing my characters, I often start with a basic trait or an idea and build from there. I ask myself questions to create detailed backstories, even if they don't all make it into the story, it helps me understand my characters deeply. Sometimes, a character's personality evolves as I write the story, reacting to the plot and other characters, making the writing process dynamic.
3. How far are we in the webtoon?
4. We've got a lot more to go, so don't worry, it's far from over!
1. What would they look like if they swapped their hair color and palette?
2. I mean, just by changing the palette, they look like completely different people. The vibe is very different too, isn't it?
3. Sera's first sketch had dark hair, but I didn't want both main characters to have the same hair color. It was quite tricky picking sera's hair color without changing jimin's.
1. Sera gives off an emo vampire vibe with the dark hair, while jimin seems like the stereotype of the typical rich, popular, bitchy girl in some drama, lol.
1. What do they do in their free time?
2. Sera's free time is all about training and drawing, but lately she's been focusing on making portraits. This is because she can't draw faces. So sera is more skilled in drawing bodies.
3. (If you've seen the previous episodes, you would have noticed that all her drawings lack a person's face. That's why she's been practicing portraits lately)
4. Meanwhile when jimin has some free time, she likes to listen to music and scroll through digital magazines and paintings. But she usually doesn't have a lot of free time because she's busy working or studying.
5. Who is the easiest and the hardest to draw?
1. Sera is definitely the hardest to draw, because of her hair. Gyuri, on the other hand, is the easiest for me to draw.
2. Are the dots on sara's face birthmarks?
3. Yes.
4. What is sera and jimin's favourite food?
5. Sera prefers homemade meals, while jimin likes black, bitter coffee without sugar.
1. What is sera's exact ethnicity?
2. Sera is half french, half korean. Her birth name is serena corbin.
3. "Corbin" originates from old french. In modern french, it comes from "Corbeau," meaning "Raven."
4. Her official name is nam sera.
5. Is sera trans? Why is she flat?
6. Sera is not meant to be a transgender character. She's an athlete, which means she's taller and more muscular than some.
7. This is just her character's style. Women can indeed be muscular and have various attributes, strong, delicate, and everything in between.
1. Does sera have a lot of exes?
2. That's possible. Sera wasn't exactly a saint back in high school. ;)
3. If each of them were an animal, what animal would they be?
4. Sera would be a wolf, and jimin would be a black cat.
1. What is each character's taste in music?
2. Sera isn't much into music. She prefers the sounds around her when she draws, like nature noises, rain, birds chirping, people's chatter, and the brush scraping on paper.
3. Jimin, on the other hand, is really into rock music.
4. I feel sera's brother seriously has eyes for jimin as well.
5. No, sunho isn't attracted to jimin. She's not his type, but he enjoys teasing sera.
6. Is sera's hair naturally white?
7. Yes!
1. Where are jimin's parents now? Is jimin poor?
2. Jimin's parents died in an accident. She might look like she's struggling financially, but she's independent and needs to work, although she isn't "Poor". She ran away at a certain age to live with her friend gyuri and has been out of touch with her parents' affairs since.
3. She goes to an expensive private school thanks to a scholarship, but it still has a significant fee. So she's not financially unstable. If she were, she wouldn't be in such a school. Her parents did leave her some money.
4. How did sera get into art? Why does she want to be anonymous?
5. Her grandmother was an artist, so sera took inspiration from her, which she also mentioned to jimin.
6. Sera doesn't seek fame, she doesn't want her paintings to be recognized just because she's the granddaughter of a famous artist. She wants to show the world that there's a talented artist out there and share her art with others without revealing her identity.
1. What were sera's thoughts on jimin's rules when she first heard them?
2. What would be your reaction?
3. Sera was definitely surprised, but it made her much more interested in jimin.
4. Like everyone, she wanted to know why jimin had such rules, and that's why she wanted to get to know her better.
5. What are their mbti?
6. Jimin is probably istp sera is probably e/intj
1. Tell us about you!
2. A lot of people are curious if I'm male or female, I'm female. I work at a design agency, and creating webtoons is my hobby. I've loved drawing since I was little and have improved a lot over the years through my webtoons. What else? Oh yes, I'm a cat person, I have four cats, haha.
3. My life's pretty routine but I've always dreamed of traveling and having new experiences, but time is tight.
4. Basically...
1. Will you do face reveal?
2. Probably not. I understand that people often want to know the appearance of the person they're following. I, too, prefer to associate faces with names, but I prefer not to reveal too much about myself. I can create a chibi sketch to give an idea of what I look like. That's as far as I'll go.
3. I like piercings and jewelry. I always wear a lot of rings and necklaces.
4. I have sleepy eyes, even when I'm not tired I look sleepy.
5. I'm quite tall, and I have very black hair and eyes.
6. My style is typically casual, baggy pants
1. And sweat shirt often paired with jacket.
2. "Why are you called dumplone? What does it mean? Why are you a peach?"
3. "I chose the name dumplone simply because I like dumplings. Regarding the peach symbol, it's in honor of my beloved artist, sulli. Though she has passed away, she continues to hold a special place in my heart."
1. Do you plot out the entire story ahead of time, or do you figure things out as you go?
2. I have the general storyline in mind, including how I want it to end and some key scenes. However, I haven't written everything down, so I often write as I go along with the drawing.
3. Why did you stop drawing bl (Boys' love)?
4. I tried drawing bl because many said I was good at drawing males, and they thought it would be nice to see bl from me. However, personally, I find it difficult and not as engaging as drawing women. Being a woman myself, I better understand female traits, mindsets, and behaviors. So I stopped continuing bl simply because I'm not passionate about it. I don't think I'll return to drawing bl. I'll try to include men in my stories, but they might not be as dynamic or interesting as my female characters.
1. How do you overcome writer's block or a creative slump?
2. By stepping away from my work and engaging in different activities, like taking a walk, listening to music, or even doing something completely unrelated like cooking. These activities help clear my mind and often spark new ideas. Another technique I use is brainstorming sessions, where I jot down any and all ideas without judging them.
3. What tools or software do you use for your artwork?
4. Procreate.
1. Do you have any tips for aspiring artists?
2. Practice, practice, practice! Improvement comes with regular practice. Dedicate time to drawing each day or week, even if it's just for a short period.
3. How do fan theories and discussions influence your work, if at all?
4. Fan theories surprises me a lot. They are not only entertaining but also offer a unique perspective on how my work is perceived and interpreted. While I write my original storyline, I do take note of fans' reactions and theories. It's enlightening to see different angles and possibilities that I might not have considered myself.
5. What achievement in your career are
1. You most proud of?
2. I'm most proud of the successful creation of webtoon series. It's a project that started as a small idea and has grown into something that resonates with a wide audience. Seeing my characters and stories come to life and connect with readers from all over the world has been incredibly rewarding.
3. Thank you all for reading the q&a and happy 2024!!!
