At school, she has a quiet and almost invisible presence. 10. Aya is a high school girl who's interested in the mysterious "Onii-san" who works at a cd store. 11. However, "Onii-san"'s true identity turns out to be mitsuki, an inconspicuous classmate who she's never even spoken to. 16. Aya's best friends and classmates. 18. An outgoing and flirty high school boy. He starts to notice mitsuki and aya's relationship, watching over them warmly. 20. The manager of the cd shop and mitsuki's uncle. He adores his niece. 22. 1. me listening to?" That curiosity encouraged me to come out of my shell a bit more, and through music, I started connecting with others and making new friends. 2. Q: It sounds like there's an autobiographical element to the story. Between Mitsuki Koga and Aya Oosawa, which of the two characters do you project your feelings on more? 3. A: Lately, I think I've been writing more from Mitsuki's perspective. But when I was creating the two characters, I drew on two extremes of myself, my extroverted side and my introverted side, and exaggerated them to shape Mitsuki and Aya. 4. In my case, there were times when I listened to music alone and felt like I had to fit in with everyone else. At the same time, there were moments when I hid my personal preferences just to blend in. So, in a way, I can relate to both of them. 5. Q: From the music that appears in your work, it seems like your taste leans heavily toward the 90s, right? 6. A: Yeah, I guess you could say that (laughs). My dad was a huge fan of Beck and owned all of his CDs, so I grew up listening to Beck from the time I started elementary school. I even have childhood memories of dancing around my dad's workspace to Guero (2005) as it played in the background. Beck has been a constant in my life, I've always loved his music. Also, for me, when I think of "rock" I think "Nirvana". That said, I generally just like loud music (laughs). But rather than focusing deeply on just one type of music, I prefer to enjoy a variety of flavors within rock. I wouldn't say I'm super knowledgeable about music history, or that I've followed any specific genres systematically. I'm more of a "I like what I like" type of music fan. Still, grunge from the 90s really struck a chord with me, and I've been especially passionate about listening to the music that surrounded that scene. That said, I think everyone listens to different music depending on their mood. For me, I sometimes immerse myself in loud music, but there are also times when I want to enjoy something quiet and calming. Since I'm someone who's drawn to all kinds of music, I wanted that to come across in this CD as well. I think Mitsuki and Aya will probably grow to feel the same way in the story. 7. Q: Have you ever played an instrument or been part of a band yourself? 8. A: Not at all, actually. But when I first realized that I loved rock music, there was a moment when I thought it would be cool to play the drums. I think that idea, "If I'm not going to perform music myself, I'll find another way to express it", definitely became part of my motivation. I've always loved watching music videos, and without even realizing it, I would start thinking

1. things like, "What would this song look like as a video?" or "What kind of music would fit this video?" That kind of perspective naturally shaped how I thought. Even now, music plays a big role in my stories. I'm oddly confident when it comes to picking songs for specific scene, like, "This song is perfect for this moment" (laughs). When readers respond to that and share their thoughts, it feels like the joy of sharing the music I love is spreading even further, which makes me so happy. 2. Q: Could you give us an example of a time you've been "saved" by music? 3. A: I feel like music is saving me all the time, literally every day, from the moment I wake up to the moment I fall asleep. When I was a kid, I didn't really know how to deal with emotions like anger or sadness. But as I grew older, I realized that music could help me work through those feelings. Sometimes, just listening to my favorite loud noise is enough to clear my head. Even when I'm drawing, listening to a song that matches the scene can give my work this strange surge of energy. Although, when I'm writing storyboards, I can get too caught up in the music, so I actually have to work in silence during those moments (laughs). 4. Q: Now that you've achieved the release of a CD, what's your next goal? 5. A: I'd love to see this manga turned into a movie. I'm especially a big fan of movies from the 90s or ones that capture the vibe of the 90s. For example, movies like "Empire Records" or "Clueless". "The Breakfast Club" is technically an 80s film, but I love stories where people from completely different walks of life happen to connect over something they have in common and end up forming a bond. That kind of storyline really speaks to me. There's also something so unique about the worldview of that era: kind of chaotic and fragmented in a way that I find really appealing. So, I'd love for this manga to be turned into a film with a similar vibe. Music is something that transcends countries and generations, after all. 6. I'm so grateful that people from different countries are already reading this manga, and if it could someday become a movie that's as universally loved as music itself, that would make me so happy. I think the mindset of music lovers is something universal, too, and if this story could connect with people on that level, it would feel like a dream come true.
